NC cadres and security persons injured in clash

Police used tear gas in the demonstration staged by the Nepali Congress in district headquarters Malangwa today.

Members of Parliament Amaresh Narayan Singh, Nagendra Kumar Yadav, provincial assembly member Birendra Prasad Singh and other leaders took part in the demonstration organized demanding investigation into the death of Mahendra Ram of Ram Nagar rural municipality-7.

Ram was reportedly attacked by an unidentified group at his home on October 7 and he died during treatment a day later at the Indo hospital in Birgunj. His family tried to bring his body to Malangwa hospital in Sarlahi for a post-mortem but police stopped them and kept the body in Narayani Hospital in Birgunj, the Nepali Congress has said.

Meanwhile, Chief of District Police Office, Sarlahi Santosh Singh Rathour told RSS that 31 rounds of tear gas shells and minor lathi charge was carried out to bring the crowd under control. The demonstrators that gathered in front of Malangwa public secondary school marched to the District Police Office, leading to a clash between the two sides.

More than 50 demonstrators were injured as a result of the baton charge by police, the NC Sarlahi has said.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Provincial Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh said 15 Nepal police personnel and four armed police personnel were injured in the clash with NC cadres. Bijaya Mahara, Bilasi Mahara and Ram Pradesh Mahara have been arrested.

Earlier, the NC had submitted a memorandum at the District Administration Office on Monday calling for fair investigation into the death incident. The NC has alleged that the police however has not registered a first information report filed by the bereaved family.
